Exploring Enchanting West Yorkshire: A Quirky Journey through Heptonstall, Haworth, and Hebden Bridge

A West Yorkshire Wonder: A Mini Break at Daisy Bank Camp Lodges

Haworth

Ah, West Yorkshire! We’ve got to be honest not a place that was on the top of our list for a UK staycay but was pleasantly surprising and we had such a great time that we actually would love to go back. The land of rolling hills, picturesque villages, and more charm than a Jane Austen novel.

If you’re in dire need of a break from the hustle and bustle, look no further than a staycation at Daisy Bank Camp Lodges that sits just above Hebden Bridge. Nestled in the heart of West Yorkshire, these lodges are the perfect base for exploring some of the county’s hidden gems. Grab your wellies or walking boots, your sense of adventure, and maybe a bit of Yorkshire tea, as we dive into a whimsical weekend exploring Hebden Bridge, Hardcastle Crags, Heptonstall, and Haworth.

Arrival at Daisy Bank Camp Lodges

The lodges are snug, cozy, and come with all the amenities you’d need for a super cosy stay. The lodges are nestled right on top of the moors and have wonderful views right from your bed and there’s nothing like opening the bifold doors wide open and letting that fresh Yorkshire moors breeze right in whilst listening to all the birds. Yet, although surrounded by peace and serenity, what is great about this place is that it is only a ten minute drive from the lovely town Hebden Bridge.

Day 1: Hebden Bridge & Hardcastle Crags

Morning: Hebden Bridge

First stop: Hebden Bridge, the epitome of quirky cool. This bohemian town is filled with independent shops, artsy cafes, and more second-hand bookstores than you can shake a bookmark at. Grab a coffee at one of the local cafes and do a bit of people-watching—it’s practically a sport here. Some of our favourite little finds where the very boujee cheese shop Goo Cheese and just next door Nelsons Wine bar. We stocked up here to take back to the lodge to enjoy on the veranda. We also had an amazing lunch at Squeeze and then the next day a cute brunch from the Excited goat. Not forgetting Dinner at Old Gate. Which is a great restaurant (we found it to be very similar to one of The Ivy cafes) and a pub/ brewery downstairs. So many great coffee shops and eateries in this little town and the market proved so popular they now have market days four days a week from Thursday-Sunday.

Afternoon: Hardcastle Crags

After lunch, it’s time to don your hiking boots and head to Hardcastle Crags. This National Trust gem offers over 400 acres of woodland and streams, and it’s just the ticket for a nature fix. Whether you’re trekking up the trails or taking it easy with a riverside stroll, the scenery is bound to impress. And don’t forget to check out Gibson Mill—an old cotton mill turned eco-friendly visitor center. We loved the riverside path and climbing to the top of the crags for a great view over the tree tops.

 Day 2: Heptonstall and Haworth

 Morning: Heptonstall

Start your day with a trip to Heptonstall, a village that feels like a step back in time. With its cobbled streets and ancient ruins, it’s perfect for a morning of leisurely wandering. This place is truly like a movie set. Visit the ruins of the old church and pay your respects at the grave of Sylvia Plath, whose poetry is as haunting as the village itself and the grave of David Hartley the infamous Robin Hood-esque coin clipper. Then head to the super cute cafe in the centre of the village Towngate Tearoom. We also really enjoyed following the village historical route.

Afternoon: Haworth

No visit to West Yorkshire would be complete without a pilgrimage to Haworth, the home of the Brontë sisters. Channel your inner literary nerd and visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, where the sisters penned their iconic novels. Afterward, take a stroll up to the moors—just try not to get too swept away by Wuthering Heights vibes. Wrap up your day with a pint at a local pub and toast to the Brontës’ brilliance. If you have time Haworth train station is definitely worth a visit. It’s a picturesque station that has steam train rides running through out the day. Jump on the train and take a short 20 min journey to Keighley and back.

A staycation in West Yorkshire, anchored by the delightful Daisy Bank Camp Lodges, is a recipe for a refreshing break. Between the charming towns, stunning nature, and literary landmarks, you’ll leave feeling both relaxed and inspired. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready to fall in love with West Yorkshire!
