Bude: Winter is a Bude-iful time to have a staycation in Cornwall.

We love a winter staycation and we are going to share lots of them with you. It’s a great time for a staycation for several reason. 1. The rates are cheaper 2. you’re not really doing anything else 3. it’s a traffic free journey (most of the time) and 4. the places that you are visiting are out of season, so you get to experience them just the way they should be…. just you and a handful of locals.

So let’s kick off this blog with sharing with you our stay in the lovely Bude.

Exploring Bude, Cornwall: A Guide to Coastal Charms

Nestled along the rugged coastline of Cornwall, the picturesque town of Bude beckons travelers with its blend of natural beauty, charming cafes, exquisite restaurants, and captivating activities. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a beach lover, or an avid hiker, Bude offers something for everyone. Let's dive into the best things to do in this coastal gem.

Cafes and Restaurants: (Link in Highlights above for some of the best eateries.) Bude boasts a thriving culinary scene, with an array of cafes and restaurants serving up delicious fare. Grab and coffee and croissant at Electric bakery, sit on the Barge in the Wharf for lunch, cocktails ant Temple and finish your day at Elements restaurant. Perfect for all you foodies out there…… but this is Cornwall after all so we wouldn’t expect anything less.

Beaches: No visit to Bude would be complete without spending time on its beautiful beaches. Widemouth Bay offers vast stretches of golden sand, perfect for sunbathing and surfing. Crooklets Beach is popular with families, offering rock pools to explore and sandcastle-building opportunities. For a quieter escape, venture to Summerleaze Beach, where you can take a dip in the tidal swimming pool or watch the sunset over the iconic Barrel Rock. Our favourite beach that we visited (especially when the tide is out) was Northcott mouth. Amazing views with a dramatic backdrop of the cliffs and cool rock formations and rock pools.

Walks and Activities: Bude's coastal location provides ample opportunities for outdoor adventures. Embark on a scenic coastal walk along the South West Coast Path, taking in breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and dramatic cliffs. Explore the historic Bude Canal, where you can stroll along the towpath or hire a kayak or paddleboard for a leisurely paddle. Thrill-seekers can try their hand at coasteering, surfing, or sea fishing, while nature lovers can birdwatch at the Bude Marshes Nature Reserve or spot seals at Compass Point.

Activities: Beyond the beaches and coastal walks, Bude offers a variety of activities to keep visitors entertained. Test your skills at Bude Golf Club, which offers panoramic views of the coastline from its clifftop location. Discover the town's history at the Bude Heritage Centre, housed in the historic Bude Castle, or take a guided tour of the town with Bude Walking Tours. And for a memorable experience, book a sunset cruise along the coast, where you can enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sky ignite with color. But be warned this could be a rocky one.

Bude is a destination that captivates visitors with its coastal charms, delicious cuisine, and abundance of activities. Whether you're seeking relaxation or adventure, this seaside town has it all, making it the perfect destination for your next getaway for either a summer
